Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) Systems

ITM Consulting recently concluded a market research study in the area of Automated Optical Inspection. The study, a survey of the Contract Electronic Manufacturers (CEM) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), was conducted to ascertain requirements and recommendations for Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems.

This study focuses on which brand of AOI systems are utilized within their respective sites, the strengths and weaknesses they recognized of their current AOI system and suggested improvements and standardizations in AOI systems.

Specific information was also obtained on price sensitivity, meaningful data retrieval, board size and complexity.

Methodology
Confidential telephone interviews were performed during the period January 30, 2001 through April 15, 2001. Ninety individuals were identified as potential interviewees from the top CEM and OEM facilities within North America, with thirty-nine actual contacts.

This survey was conducted exclusively via one-to-one phone discussion. ITM Consulting does not rely upon "paper" surveys and conducts only phone interviews. Overall, it was important to ensure that the appropriate professional was interviewed to obtain accurate data.
